Sad news coming in over the weekend, as it was announced on Friday that Mike Mitchell, co-founder of the 60s rock group Kingsman, passed away on his 77th birthday.

Mitchell was the guitarist on the band’s hit “Louie, louie” and had a strong influence across the world of rock and guitar in general.

Eagles’ guitarist Joe Walsh noted in a press release that he “learned to play the guitar because of Mike Mitchell” and offered his sincere condolences.

The Oregon Music Hall of Fame posted a very kind, heartfelt tribute to Mitchell, that you can read here.

No cause of death was immediately released. This post will be updated as information becomes available.

Rest in Peace Mike Mitchell
